Muslim Performance and Urdu Theatre in Delhi
Popular Urdu language staged performances offer a way in which we can think about social and religious life, history, and the cultural politics of language in Delhi today. In her talk, Jaclyn will address these issues in a discussion of recently performed plays and interviews with producers and audiences that she conducted in Delhi this summer. She will speak about the dramatic presentation of Muslim pasts and presents, the issue of religious identity and performing Urdu language plays, and the nature of audiences who attend these performances.
