Spring Deadlines (January – May)

January Deadlines

The S.N. Bose Scholars Summer Exchange Program is a scientific research reciprocation program between U.S. and Indian academic labs, primarily for sciences other than biology, such as the physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, quantitative social sciences, oceanic, atmospheric and astronomical sciences. Research is conducted in the collaborating country’s academic labs, for a period of 8-10 weeks in the summer, from May to July. See application guidelines here.

The Khorana Scholar Summer Exchange Program was created to foster a scientific two-way exchange between India and the United States, enabling Indian and US university students to work and study in the partner country’s research laboratories. American and Indian undergraduates in the fields of biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology are encouraged to apply. International Internships Call for Applications
The UW International Internships Program (IIP) is now accepting applications for summer 2020 internships. South Asia-related internships include the Infosys InStep Internship in Bangalore, Pune or Hyderabad, India (stipend, airfare, housing provided) and Design & Production Development Intern (various orgs) in Kathmandu, Nepal (4W scholarship). Contact Nathaniel Liedl for additional details. Application deadline for the India program is January 31, 2020 and the deadline for the Nepal program is February 16, 2020.

Summer Writing Program Call for Applications
The Summer Institute is an immersive two-week creative writing and cultural exchange program held in Iowa City, Iowa, U.S., a UNESCO City of Literature, for participants age 18-22 from Pakistan, India, and the U.S. Students from all disciplines – the arts, humanities, sciences, and everything in between – are welcome to apply! Additional details are available here. Application deadline is February 1, 2020.

March Deadlines

The Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP-AIPS) is a Fall intensive Urdu language immersion program based at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Pakistan. Jointly administered by the America Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Berkeley Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP) at ISAS in the University of California, Berkeley, this Urdu language program offers daily classroom instruction, five days a week, for approximately fifteen weeks. April Deadlines

SASLI Now Accepting Applications – COVID Update 4/6/2020
The South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) based at the UW–Madison is an 8 week, intensive language opportunity that runs from June 15 – August 7, 2020. For the Summer 2020, then, we will offer first and second-year levels in the following: Bengali, Dari, Gujarati, Hindi*, Marathi, Nepali, Pashto, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sinhala, Tamil, Tibetan and Urdu*. *Hindi and Urdu will also be taught at the third-year level.* Complete application details are available hereApplication deadline is April 12, 2020. 4/6 Update: SASLI, as part of the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes, will be offering online instruction only in summer 2020. On April 2, UW-Madison announced that face-to-face instruction would not be offered in consideration of everyone’s safety. More details on summer online instruction are available here.

May Deadlines

Summer Language Courses at UT-Austin
In cooperation with SASLI at UW-Madison, the South Asia Institute at UT-Austin plans to offer courses in three South Indian languages during the summer 2020—Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. All courses will be offered through UT Extension, but administered through SAI. With over 140 contact hours and 8 weeks of classes, taking both courses over the summer meets FLAS Fellowship guidelines. Additional details are available here. Application deadline is May 8, 2020. AIIS Summer Online Language Programs
AIIS will be offering its summer language program online for summer 2020 and is extending the deadline for applying for the program until May 10, 2020. We will be offering an eight week program (June 17 to August 13) in Bangla, Gujarati Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Mughal Persian, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, and Urdu. AIIS regrets that financial aid is not available at this time. To apply, students should go to www.indiastudies.org. They should register on the portal but should ONLY upload one pdf containing two items: the two-page main application form and the one-page statement of purpose, They should NOT upload any other materials nor should they arrange for letters of recommendation. They would add the $25 application fee to the program fee they would pay. Applications are due May 10, 2020. (Deadline extended)

SILMW Online for Summer 2020
Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) at the University of Illinois will be conducted online this summer. Languages offerings include Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, and Wolof. Complete details are available here. Registration deadline is May 15, 2020.

ILS Law & Society Graduate Fellows Program Call for Applications
The Institute for Legal Studies, University of Wisconsin Law School, is pleased to announce its call for applications for the ILS Law & Society Graduate Fellows Program for the 2020-21 academic year. This two-year fellowship supports graduate students engaged in research on socio-legal studies at UW-Madison. More information is available here. Applications are due on May 15, 2020 and decisions will be made by May 31, 2020.

Dissertation Publication Workshop
Part of the Annual Conference on South Asia at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, this workshop aims to help a select number of recent PhDs re-vision their doctoral dissertations as books. This workshop is sponsored by the American Institute of Indian Studies, American Institute of Pakistan Studies, American Institute of Bangladesh Studies, and the American Institute of Sri Lankan Studies. CAORC-AIIS Faculty Development Seminar
The Council of American Overseas Research Centers and the American Institute of Indian Studies are partnering to present a two-week capacity building workshop in India that will include stays in the cities of Delhi, Jaipur, and Lucknow. Participants must be faculty members of a community college or minority-serving institution and must be available to participate for the duration of the seminar. Program and funding details are available here. Application deadline is September 16, 2019.

Fulbright US Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program (FUSP) is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Most grantees plan their own programs. The 2021-2022 competition will open on March 31, 2020! Complete details about opportunities available through FUSP are on the Fulbright US Student Program website. UW-Madison campus application deadline is September 17, 2020. The national application deadline is October 13, 2020.
