In recent months Sri Lanka has faced the worst economic crisis in recent history which saw an organic, people-led peaceful protest which culminated in the resignation of both the President and Prime Minister. Under the Law and the Global South Initiative of the Global Legal Studies Center, this virtual roundtable will discuss these developments, their implications for democracy and lessons for the future.
This panel will focus on the current situation in Sri Lanka, regarding democracy and social movements. The discussion will be hosted by Professor Sumudu Atapattu (Director, Global Legal Studies Center, UW Law School).
