In Memoriam: Joseph Elder

The UW–Madison Center for South Asia mourns the loss of Professor Emeritus Joseph Elder. Professor Elder’s work and legacy leaves a lasting imprint on many people and programs at UW–Madison, the signature UW in India program, the Annual Conference on South Asia, and the field of South Asian Studies. “Joe,” as he was widely known to many, lived a life of humble service and was beloved by countless members of the international community.  In addition to his distinguished career as a South Asian Studies scholar, Joe quietly assumed the role of global peacemaker.  Details on memorial information are forthcoming.
