Professor Gurindar (Guri) Sohi—Vilas Research Professor, John P. Morgridge Professor, and E. David Cronon Professor of Computer Sciences at UW–Madison—has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Computer Pioneer Award in Honor of the Women of ENIAC by the IEEE Computer Society. Sohi is the first person from UW–Madison to receive this honor, which recognizes individuals whose groundbreaking contributions have shaped the computing industry for over 15 years.
Renowned for revolutionizing microprocessor efficiency and computer architecture, Sohi’s early research challenged conventional processor design but later became the foundation for modern high-performance computing. His transformative impact has earned him accolades such as election to the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
