CSA Welcomes New Associate Director Sarah Beckham

The Center for South Asia is pleased to welcome incoming Associate Director Dr. Sarah Beckham on February 1st!  Sarah Beckham served as the Interim Associate Director in the fall 2019 semester, with a background as a Hindi Lecturer in the Department of ALC and as the Hindi-Urdu Pedagogy Specialist for the SAFLI, SASLI, and Project GO programs at UW-Madison, where she launched a national certificate training program for prospective instructors of South Asian languages.  Dr. Beckham successfully completed her PhD in linguistics at UW-Madison in 2019, with a research focus on language contact and loanword phonology in Marathi.  In addition, she is a founding member of the Punjabi Boliyan Research Initiative (PBRI), a collective which has begun documenting post-partition dialect leveling and language shift in Pakistani Punjabi.
